Safety profile
The FDA classifies phytosterols (plant sterols) as “Generally Recognized As Safe” at the recommended dose levels.
Prevalip is generally well-tolerated by most patients long-term. Side effects are rare, but may include:
- Nausea
- Indigestion
- Loose stools
These adverse effects are usually mild. Contact your healthcare provider if you notice any long-term change in your health.
Prevalip is not recommended if you have sitosterolemia, a genetic disorder in which cholesterol and plant sterols build up in the body. High plant sterol levels may cause an increased risk of early atherosclerosis.
Prevalip and other phytosterols are not recommended for pregnant or lactating women and children. Do not take it if you are allergic to any of the ingredients.
